Lichtbende brings light to life through live animation. Blending visual art, music, and theatre, the company has been creating unique light-art performances since 2010 using antique magic lanterns combined with live contemporary music. Every production is an authentic and heartfelt piece of musical light theatre, crafted with exceptional artistry, craftsmanship, and passion.
Wordless stories come to life through enchanting magic lantern projections on a giant screen, seamlessly woven together with live music. The audience experiences the magic as it happens: the artists perform and create the projections live, right behind the screen.

By returning to the very origins of audiovisual media, Lichtbende uncovers the magic of creating moving images with light. Using the magic lantern the precursor to the modern film projector, invented in 1659 by the Dutch scientist Christiaan Huygens the company transforms a centuries-old invention into a contemporary theatrical experience.

Founded in 2006, the PROPROPRODUCTIES Foundation supports, initiates, and facilitates interdisciplinary projects in visual arts, theatre, music, and arts education.
The members of the Board have been appointed based on their expertise, experience in relevant fields, and their commitment to the work of Lichtbende. All Board members serve on a voluntary basis without remuneration. The Foundation operates in accordance with the Dutch Cultural Governance Code.
